From 1 May 2026, the next stage of Industry Regulation improvements will be released in Environment Online, bringing new digitised application forms and system enhancements.
The changes are part of a whole‑of‑government initiative to modernise environmental regulation services, reduce processing time and improve submission quality.
What’s changing
From 1 May, applications for instruments and registrations – including amendments, renewals, transfers and surrenders – will move to easy-to-use digitised forms in Environment Online. The new forms are designed to reduce errors, minimise follow‑up and support more consistent assessments.
Other improvements include:
- Copying information between related applications, reducing duplication
- Improved fee and payment management, with invoices and correspondence handled directly through Environment Online
What you need to do now
Already using Environment Online?
- Log in and submit any draft Industry Regulation applications before 1 May, where possible
- Confirm invoice email details with their organisation’s Service Administrator to avoid payment delays
New to Environment Online?
- Create an Environment Online account using a Microsoft Work Account or Digital ID
- Ensure you are authorised to submit applications on behalf of an organisation
Guidance and support
The new forms include clear explanations and guidance to support completion. While some applications may take slightly longer at first, the structured format is designed to reduce follow-up and support more consistent assessments over time.
Additional practical guidance will be available closer to 1 May.
