Purpose of pre-referral meetings
Prior to referring a proposal to the EPA, the proponent is encouraged to request a pre-referral meeting with the EPA Services Directorate of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. The pre-referral meeting will enable the EPA Services to discuss with the proponent:
- potential impacts of the proposal, including holistic and cumulative impacts and any Matters of National Environmental Significance.
- possible preliminary key environmental factors
- alternatives to the proposal and within the proposal
- consideration of the mitigation hierarchy and significance (see Statement of principles, environmental factors, objectives and aims of EIA)
- consideration of environmental outcomes (see Environmental outcomes and outcomes-based conditions Interim Guidance)
- stakeholder consultation
- proposed management measures
- possible assessment pathways, including level of assessment.
The proponent should complete and submit this form to EPA Services prior to the pre-referral meeting.
