Index of Surveys for Assessments (ISA)

22 May 2026 (Published: 09 October 2025)

IN THIS ARTICLE:

If you’re submitting biodiversity or marine survey data, this page will help you understand how to use Environment Online and where to start.

You may have arrived here from the previous IBSA or IMSA submission websites. The way survey data is submitted has changed, and all submissions are now made through Environment Online.

What's changed?

From 13 October 2025, survey data packages should be submitted through Environment Online using the new Index of Surveys for Assessments (ISA).

This replaces the previous submissions processes via:

  • Index of Biodiversity Surveys for Assessment (IBSA)
  • Index of Marine Surveys for Assessment (IMSA).

With ISA you can:

  • submit data packages directly linked to applications or referrals under Part IV and Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986
  • use a single, streamlined platform for both land-based biodiversity and marine survey data.

You can still search, view, and download data from the IBSA and IMSA portals.

About the Index of Surveys for Assessments

The Index of Surveys for Assessments (ISA) brings together biodiversity and marine survey data to:

  • improve access for government, industry and the community
  • support better environmental outcomes
  • simplify the submission process.

For more information, visit the Index of Surveys for Assessment webpage.
